Ayurvedic Perspective on Acidity
In Ayurveda, Acidity can be correlated to Amlapitta, a Pittaja disorder caused by the aggravation of Pachaka Pitta, one of the five subtypes of Pitta dosha that controls digestion. When this fire becomes irregular, it results in hyperacidity, inflammation, and toxin accumulation (Ama). Amlapitta in Ayurveda, refers to the excessive secretion of acid in the stomach, leading to symptoms like burning sensations, sour belching, bloating, and discomfort in the upper abdomen. It is a condition that arises due to the vitiation of Pitta and improper functioning of the digestive fire (Agni). If left untreated, Amlapitta can affect the entire gastrointestinal system, disturb nutrient assimilation, and lead to chronic issues such as peptic ulcers or gastritis
